Perfect day to head out to the coast and get lunch at Dad's.
Met Bob and Sonny at Woodside Store and then headed up Kings via Huddart. At the entrance of Huddart, Rob, a fellow Firefly owner, had been taking a break when he noticed Bob's bike. He ended up catching up to us and riding with us to the top even though he had planned to descend back down.
At one point he asked Sonny and I when we were going to get a Firefly. I guess I was pretty quick to say no. :)
On the way out to the coast, we saw several baby snakes sunbathing in the middle of the road.
It was slightly cooler at the coast but still fine in shorts and short sleeves. Not as many wildflowers as the super bloom from a couple years ago but there were descent blankets of flowers in the hills and fields.
I was planning on doing some harder efforts today but woke up feeling tired and didn't do as many as I had hoped to. Bob was complaining that Sonny and I were going too slow for him to stay upright. I say he needs to work on his balance. :P
When we got to the steeps, Bob did a little sprint when he said he wanted to take it easy. The pace rose enough that I decided to go. My legs felt way better than last weekend and I was avg. more than 50W more. As I was getting to the Grassy Knoll, I saw someone behind me was starting to catchup to me so I put a bit more effort in. I was hoping I could hold the pace and time it so this person would catch and tow me on the flatter, upper, section. It mostly worked. It actually took him longer to catch me than I hoped. I was able to draft for a while but I decided I didn't want to put in that much work and let him go.
At the top I turned around to go back for Bob and Sonny. When we got to the top again, I ran into Tony and his friend Evan.
The descent was mostly super fun and car free except for catching a super slow Toyota on the long straight above Huddart. I caught them a little too soon and had to wait until I could see ahead to pass them.
The headwind back on Canada sucked! Just happy I had the legs to ride through it.
