Got to Green River and the 91 Freeway Overpass and was noticing a tick tick sound coming from the rear derailleur area when in the 2 lowest gears. Looked down and saw the lower rear derailleur cage and pulleys were tilted inboard towards the spokes by about 3-4 degrees and twisted clockwise when viewed from above about the same amount! That alone would caused the chain to climb crookedly up the lower derailleur pulley creating a tick. Then as I looked at the derailleur to sort out just what caused the distortion and misalignment I noticed the bolt on dropout hanger the derailleur bolts onto is cracked! This had to be the result of last weekends ride on the Metrolink train back from San Juan Capistrano where I had to park my bike next too a 4 wheeled handicapped electric scooter and its owner who didnt seem to have any problems walking, came back to his scooter to get something and knocked my biker over on the derailleur side hard while the train was in motion. I did a cursory overview of my bike and all seemed well but not even during the detailed cleaning I did 24 hrs ago did I spot the hanger crack or the gear misalignment. So I turned around and gently rode it back home. I’ll order 2 of these hangers since they are this fragile! My former LiteSpeed titanium framed bike would not have even flinched with such a fall. I think the hangers is a poor design. Love the rest of the bike… So far… Wonder if there are aftermarket stronger hangers? Will research… So no Long Beach Grand Prix…. I guess my thoughts about alternatively riding over to and across Glendora Ridge Road to Baldy Village and back or over to Big Bear via Onxy Summit to Running Springs and back were not going to happen if I’d chosen either of those for today either…
