Begin from Champoeg State Park Visitor Center. The day use fee went up to $10, so opted to buy an annual pass for $30. The first 17.5 miles to Willamette Mission State Park and the start of the bike path was mainly tailwind. Not too much traffic for an early Sunday afternoon. Signs are posted stating bikes will not be allowed on McKay Rd starting May 5 and lasting through Halloween. That knocks out a few ride options. The return from Willamette Mission Park goes back to Matheny Rd then to River Rd. Ride by the Nusom Farm at the intersection of River Rd and French Prairie Rd, used by the Salem bike club as a rest stop on the former Monster Cookie Route. Then go by the Fairfield Grange. Headwind on nearly all of the return, except for a mile on Champoeg Rd just before Highway 219 and another 1.5 miles on Champoeg Rd just after crossing 219. Steady North wind of 7-15 mph.
