Awesome ride 😊. I tempoed out at the upper edge of zone 2 to meet up with World Famous Erik Pippins group: Ladies and Gents at ARTIC Bus Depot in Anaheim along the SART. From there we worked our way across city streets to Silverado Canyon and eventually the bike trail that descends it to the coast at Newport Beach. Crossed the bridge over onto Balboa Island and stopped for lunch at a deli a little bit before the ferry back to the mainland. PCH and the back streets of Newport just about to the entrance of SART Eastbound.
There was plenty of putzing along as there was a significant head wind on the way out.
Once we we Eastbound with a tail wind we lit the after burners and I took a 10 mile flyer before Francis the silent but deadly amongst the group caught me and kept going.
I was ok with it and didn’t try to catch him as he was only doing 47 miles for the day and I was on pace for 119 and was at only 80 when he rolled up.
Great guy!
He’s a Clark Kent in looks but strong, smooth, even measured in his efforts, perfect poker face.
Even at 25 mph for a good chunk of the way back to ARTIC I couldn’t reel him in a bit. He was on a mission.
Eventually I will get my 100+ mile pace to surpass his 47.
Stay tuned…
I did go over to where he was parked at ARTIC and thanked him for the strong ride and complicated him on his form and power. He deserves to be recognized for his accomplishment. He’s done his homework well! Bravo 👏🏽
The power in my legs stayed strong until I was into Corona and well past the 100 mile mark. Then I ran out of water. Pretty much flat lined from there with spurts of gusto.
Ate 3 of the Walking Tamales, 4 chunks of crystallized brown sugar from sugar cane, a large peanut butter cookie I got at the deli on Balboa Island.
My soul is at peace ✌🏾 Time to chug down a couples bottles of electrolytes and water. Once that’s emptied out of my stomach I’ll eat a hefty chunk of seeded watermelon 🍉 once thats emptied out I’ll have a salad and some kind of protein to begin the upgrades. Then off to bed.
