Bob wanted to do a flat, recovery, after last week's double. I only managed to get in one ride during the week so this sounded like a good idea.
Weird start to the morning as the wind made it chilly and it was pretty cloudy but there was a 5C/9F jump in temperature between my house and Bob's. It was also really calm at his place. I was hoping for a nice, wind-free, day as it's been super windy during the week. Narrator - it would become very windy.
We stopped off at Maison Alyzée to check out their pastries. I ended up getting a plain croissant for a benchmark and a pecan-topped cinnamon roll. I'd give the croissant a 7/10. The outside had a good snap and crackle but the inside was a bit chewy as if it was a little stale. Good flavor though. The cinnamon roll too was a bit dense and could've been more moist. So I don't know if their stuff was stale or they just like it that way.
Once we got out on the trail towards the Bay, the headwinds hit us hard. And it was bad pretty much the whole way until we got onto the Alameda Creek Trail heading ESE. From there until we had to head west again, it was glorious tailwind. We saw a snake just as it finished going across the trail.
Right after lunch, when we got on the road again, up ahead I could see the turn signal was green for us. I jokingly shouted ahead to Bob, "We can make it!" not thinking he would actually try but he did. I tried to tell him I was only joking while I half sprinted as well. It seemed like a bad idea to do a full sprint on cold legs. I think if my legs were warm and I was doing a full sprint, I could've made it but as it was, the light turned before we got there.
At one of the later traffic lights, closer to home, when the light turned green, a paper bag, blown by the wind, started to head across the intersection and Bob said, "Follow that bag."
