A Jasmer cache at the Pechuck Lookout had been on our list for some time... and we had the opportunity for a nice day and schedules to come together for a stroll in the woods.
Mpmcmillen and I made it to the trailhead (3265') at about 11:30, and started our slog up the hill. The trail started out steep, the alternated between flatter & steeper sections. M and I discussed the definition of a switchback (a corner, a link, a corner, or maybe a link, a corner, a link) and made it to the intersection at 4202 feet, a nearly 1 mile/1000 foot climb in about 50 minutes.
The remainder of the hike was over ridgelines and skirting hillsides, mostly ups and downs with a few nice level stretches.
We browsed the Pechuck LO, then found a lunch spot near the long abandoned pit toilet area. Before we broke out lunch, there was the little matter of finding the Pechuck cache (GC1E03). M took a dicey route, and I followed via a bit safer route. I arrived just as he was retrieving the ammo can. All it great shape!
We retraced my route back up, then had lunch. Ahhh.
Back on the trail, we headed past Rooster Rock to Chicken Rock where the Rooster Rock cache (GC1FWNR) was located. That was a dicey placement as well! All good (including a fire making kit) in the cache, then we enjoyed the views and had a bit of nourishment.
We decided against heading a mile north to a couple other caches as the day was getting away from us, so we headed back.
We spotted no others on the trail, but spotted a pickup just down the road from the trailhead with no occupant.
All in all, it was a great day to stroll the woods, naturally!
