Bob suggested riding out to the coast to avoid the heat. I wanted to go up to Pacifica but Bob thought it would be pretty busy further north, which I agreed it was probably going to be so we did Ye Olde Pescadero Loop.
It was already warm at the start. We met a few people along the way who were also heading to Pesacdero including a guy in Los Altos when we were stopped at the light. We later saw him again on Tunitas. He was further behind us but didn't stop for lunch in Pescadero like we did.
In Arastradero, Bob spotted a snake on the road. I was behind him so I didn't see it right away but I believe it was a rattlesnake. The car behind us managed to avoid it but the next car, either ran it over or just stopped to let it cross. Not sure what happened.
There were tons of cyclists descending OLH for some reason. Clearly they didn't know the unwritten rule.
Sonny seemed to really be suffering on OLH. At the top, he was contemplating turning around because he didn't think he would survive Tunitas if he felt this bad. He felt better after we got down to 84 so he kept going and actually was fine most of the rest of the ride except on Stage after lunch.
The cooling heading towards the coast was pretty gradual. It wasn't until we were almost in Pescadero that it actually started feeling chilly because of the strong winds.
At lunch, I saw Mike roll in and we got to chat for a bit. He was doing the same loop but since he was stopping for food too, we didn't get to ride together.
There were moments were I put in efforts like at the top of OLH and on Tunitas whenever Bob would go but overall it was pretty chill.
On almost all of the descents, I was coasting. And on Kings, I was coasting and STILL managed to catch some cars that were going SO slow. I passed two cars before finally catching two cyclists stuck behind a car almost at the bottom. No point passing them at that point.
It was SO hot once we got back down to the valley. I suggested finding a place for a drink. Bob wanted ice cream so we ended up at Sharon Park where I got a yummy tea from Wild Berry and Sonny got a three pack of Magnum ice cream bars.
