Solo ride, unsupported. Great weather. My legs were not "fresh" after the hard Oceanside double century 3 days earlier, but they weren't sore, either. I just didn't have the stamina to push a gear into the wind on a slight positive grade as long as I might have otherwise. I could have pushed harder, but I did press on in a mindful way, and was pleased with the result.
I went off course 2x: just silliness, and that cost me a few moments, but not a lot of time. I took a wrong turn onto Pleasant Valley, which only extended the ride by about 0.6 miles, and cost a couple of minutes. I also missed the turn off of Via Real to cross the bridge in Carpenteria, which extended the ride by .26 mi. and 1:21. Totals: 0.86 mi and 3:21. That would make the base route 124.92 miles long (or 201.04 km).
Hmm. I guess I also went off course by taking Broad Beach Rd instead of PCH for the last 1.6 miles. It's not as fast, but is more conducive to cooling down, etc. The downside is often having to use the pedestrians' button to force a change of the signal in order to cross PCH.
================
Personal gibberish:
I only stopped once for support purposes, at the Coast Village Starbucks, for 12:30. I had one other "voluntary" stop to check the view at the side of the road by the Four Seasons where I saw another cyclist, Wolfgang. That cost me another 1:48, or a total of 14:18. The rest was a stop on the bridge to get by a bag lady whose grocery cart took up most of the footpath, and stop lights and such (only another 42 seconds!).
My rest stop was comprised of my filling my CamelBak with water and a little ice, the purchase of a second slice of banana-walnut bread, using the rest room, taking a couple of pictures there and sending one as a text to Nell.
I think I saw the guy that started the Santa Barbara Century with maybe 3 friends, but when i saw him a second time it looked like there was only 1 other rider with him by that time,
4:42 "extra" time, plus additional for slowing to take pictures at times (no stopping "just" for pictures - I was already stopped at the Starbucks when I took pics there.)
