That somebody was me.
The guys wanted to meet at 9a which I knew was going to mean waking up earlier than normal. When the alarm went off, I was not happy and was not ready to get up. I think I was probably in the wrong part of my sleep cycle.
I was never able to shake it off. I started off feeling that deep tiredness you get from waking up in the middle of a deep sleep and I was wondering what's happening in your body that causes it and that doesn't allow you to get past it. I tried riding harder to wake myself up but that didn't seem to help.
Later that just led to me being grumpy and everything annoying me. Sonny's freehub along with the bumpiness of the road and the traffic noise was starting to get to me.
Pretty much from the turn inland after Aptos until we got to Summit Store, the roads have gotten worse. Not sure how that's possible but we were wishing we had some suspension. I don't know how this is possible but Highland Way seems worse than it was just 6 months ago. And not sure why there was so much traffic on the roads today.
Speaking of Highland Way, there was a little hint of the explosion of lady bugs we encountered on Eureka Canyon several years ago. I wonder if we missed their peak or they're on their way to peaking.
I discovered that Sonny's freehub is louder than Bob and mine combined. At speed, I have to be about 20' behind him before his and my freehubs are they same volume.
I was also being harassed by horseflies or whatever it was I managed to kill while we were eating ice cream at Summit Store.
The weather started off nice but was a bit foggy and cold at Gayle's and all along the coast until we made the turn inland. After that it got progressively hotter.
We got to Gayle's around 10:30a and it seemed pretty dead in the parking lot and inside - there were even empty tables. But when we grabbed our numbers, we got 4, 5, and 6, and they were on 60-something. And then all of sudden the place was packed with people. No idea where they came from but it took a while before they got to our numbers.
