Went up to Sweet Passion Bakery specifically for sausage rolls only to find out their Irish baker was on vacation (for an undetermined time. It’s just the way they roll).
As backup choices go, Golden Boy is quite a good since it’s normally a first choice.
Another important reason to head north was to avoid or minimize the amount of headwind on the way home. There was more headwind on the way back than I was expecting though. The worst was having headwind for the final climbs when my legs were cooked.
I almost didn't bring any layers but I'm glad I did. It started off warm and sunny even in spite of the wind. At the north end of Sawyer Camp Trail, the clouds resting on top of the ridge was a bit ominous. The winds also started to get stronger and chillier.
North of Sneath Ln, the clouds covered the sky and without the sun to counter the wind chill, I had to stop to put on arm warmers. Once I got to Taraval, it started to feel better, probably because it was a tailwind and less chilly.
As mentioned earlier, Sweet Passion didn't have any sausage rolls but they also seemed to be low on their Chinese baked goods too. I ended up leaving without getting anything.
In all my years living in the Bay Area, I've never visited Stern Grove despite driving by it almost daily. The previous versions of this route that I created bypassed it and I took the opportunity to check it out, especially since I was so much closer having gone to Golden Boy.
I was not expecting it to be such a steep and deep bowl. Some pretty flowers but otherwise it wasn't that pretty. Lots of fences up but even without those eye sores, the park didn't seem that scenic. I guess I don't really ever need to go again unless there's someone playing that I really want to see.
I would LOVE to know why it's so windy at Sierra Point. Especially windy in the opposite direction that it's supposed to be. I had a nice tailwind riding next to the Brisbane Lagoon - as expected - but then as soon as I went under the 101, the wind picked up!
Opted to do the bonus Oyster Point trails rather than ride road. While it was way more pleasant and peaceful, I was also hit with some pretty bad headwind anytime I had to go west.
Tons of kiteboarders and windsurfers at Coyote Point and especially at Seal Point.
My legs felt pretty good until I got to Foster City. I enjoyed the tailwind for as long as I could but before the turn home into the headwind.
