Nice weather today. Favorable winds, but not excessive. My legs felt pretty good from the start. I was able to do Moderate tempo through OTR and a bit more over Banducci. I made it to the summit of Banducci in under 38 minutes. I knew I was doing good time, but I didn't push the pace. I soft-pedaled the downhill and commenced with Moderate tempo for most of the farm valley. I lifted the pace on a few occasions, but kept it moderate for the most part. I reached the top of SS feeling a bit gassed, but I was able to recover within 2-3 minutes. I made it through the tunnel in under an hour and out of SS in under 1:05 hrs. My legs continued to feel pretty good, so I did a bit higher than moderate tempo to Pelliser. Once I made that left hander, I upped the pace just a bit. I was doing 20 - 27mph at this point. I made it to Boss Hogs in well under 1:20. At this point, I was feeling a little fatigued and slight lower back soreness, but stretching kept it in check. I really like the new pedal system. I think I'm able to find my balance a bit easier. I set the heal-out on the right shoe. I think it helped. I was constantly testing the different positions, with the heal in and out, plus hand positions and saddle positions. I'm starting to get it dialed in and I'm liking it a lot. While I'm on the topic, my gear worked flawless. No mystery clicks, just sheer enjoyment. My concentration was right in the zone. Balance, like I mentioned is good and will likely get better as I make minor adjustments. Ailments were minimal. Lower back and some numbness in the hand, for a minute or so. Other notes. They are making some room on the shoulders for the end of CVR and the street leading to Bear Valley. I can only imaging that they are going to put a bike path there within the next month. Perhaps readying it for the Gran Fondo. Peggy and family are arriving here on Saturday, so I think that's an ideal day for an extended ride. I'm thinking Keene + Tour de Teh.
