My third day of riding the Colorado High Country 1200k brevet. I finished in the dark again, and was very drowsy during a long, boring descent with maddening cracks in the asphalt which the bike slammed down into every 1-2 seconds. Notwithstanding, the day presented wonderful weather and awesome scenery. I was DFL starting again, but I was actually only a few seconds behind another rider, Hector (of the San Diego area), who had actually stayed in Walden and slept there for 2-3 hours before riding on to Steamboat Springs early in the morning (making Day 3 a very long day for him). Hector actually caught and passed me while I was searching for a milk shake in the little town of Granby, where we did a little out-and-back to Grand Lake on US-34, which was maybe 1/3rd of the way from Granby to Estes Park. However, I think poor Hector slowed way down (there being a long, significant climb to Willow Creek pass, the continental divide again) as I believe I reached the overnight control a couple of hours or more before him. I scared a lot of deer from the sides of the road as I moved briskly up that climb at dusk.
