What a great route! Started at 5:37, RWGPS is still off by 1 hour. While riding I ran into a rider heading WVC recovery ride. So I accompanied them. Soon after starting that part, someone had a flat. While sitting there another rider realized they too had a flat. So that took a while. Then off we went again. As always when on a perm and I get into a big group, I try to lead or be off the back ( not in the draft). I also try to talk up RUSA. There is another advantage of a pack and that is I get to practice group riding again, for a little bit and advertise for RUSA. On this ride there was another rider that was interested in RUSA and PBP in particular, so he started asking questions. I kept encouraging him to get started at 100k & 200k rides and not be as concerned with 1200k. They will come. Then it was time for me to turn away from the group and head to my next control. That lead to the hills of Verrado and wondering where I would get my next water! It was starting to get hot. I figured I could stop at Cliff House on way up to Victory Vic place. There is a nice bathroom and a little patio restaurant. As I pulled in there, no guests were present and the 1 worker said she had 1 breakfast burrito left, so of course I had to take that! While dining, a roadrunner appeared. I snapped a few photos. Then the worker said it was a juvenile and a parent that had been with it in prior days had died. Now this juvenile comes by to beg food. She predicted he would jump up onto my table! It did! Amazing. I took a little video. Of course I did NOT feed it. Time to get going. Hotter yet. The next water hole would have to be something inside WTP as the WTP Library is closed on Sunday. Opted for that stop to be at Waterfall Trail parking lot. There I watered down my skull cap, armies, leggings, and back. Then set off to finish the last 15 miles. I was ok all the way home and upon arrival home had already finished 1.5 of my 2 bottles! Good day of cycling.
