This is my fun 7 mile loop ride. My actual ride loop starts at the gravel portion from Ward Cove Market begin and ends off No. Tongass highway at Ward Cove AK. It follows mostly wooded, broad foot paths and a logging road. Pick up the Pipeline trail starting at Ward Cove Market heading east and follows an old redwood water pipe for 1 mile. This trail parallels Revilla Road. After 1 mile, there is a dirt parking lot where you will find the start of the Salvage trail. If you have the strength to ride steep, gear down or walk up the first few yards of this trail. That is the steepest part of this loop route. This part of the loop follows a typical logging road, long ups and downs but nothing too hard. It is a quiet ride, lightly graveled, broad, smooth dirt road, end to end, for 1.5 miles. At the end is a metal gate and Revilla Road again. This route parallels Revilla road. Follow Salvage trail for 1.5 miles. This trail connects with Revilla road, paved. To continue this loop ride, turn right on Revilla road for a few yards, then turn left into Last Chance campground. Follow the campground road to the trailhead going to Ward Lake. This trail between campground and Ward Lake is a well maintained shared, lightly graveled, walking path. This route parallels Ward Creek. You will cross 6 bridges without having to dismount. There are many climbs and descents, zigs and zags, as you have fun wheeling through the Tongass National Forest. When you reach the Ward lake parking lot, turn left onto a paved road and follow to the end of the lake at Signal Creek campground. At the campground, go beyond the "End of road" sign onto gravel again and follow this to Frog pond. When you reach Frog Pond, stay on the dirt road going back to No. Tongass highway. Turn right on No. Tongass highway to return to the start.
