I got out around noon today. The weather was a bit warm, in the mid to upper 80's. The winds were from the north-west. I felt good today. I had the legs right from the get go. I cruised the warmup to the summit of the climb. Somewhere around 11 minutes or so. The winds were strong today. I softpedaled most of the downhill. I think I made it to the base in about 38ish minutes. A good average time. I started the climb somewhat cautious due to the heat. As I rode the first mile, I realized that my body was responding well and that I was going to be able to hold high tempo for most of the ascent. That's exactly what I did. There were points such as the Loop mile that I was pushing to the limit. I used the downhill sections to recover, stretch and hydrate. The wind did what it usually does. It was mostly tail, but turned headwind going into some of the curved sections of the road. I had to unzip my jersey around the loop area so that I could get a bit of the wind into my chest. That worked well and I zipped it back up once I got the heat issue mitigated. Once I got over the loop, I knew that I was going to be able to hold high tempo for the remainder of the ascent. In essence, I tried to burn all my matches at just the right moments. Considering that this was a short ride, I knew I would have to problems getting back home. I had some ailments. My right hand went a bit numb, not much. Stretching it out helped. My lower back was just about at its limit when I lifted the pace into high tempo. I stretched when I could and I adjusted my tempo accordingly to give my back a reprieve at just the right moments. My gear is working well. No mystery clicks and all other gadgets worked flawless. Other notes, I motorcycle rider pulled up next to me and told my that I hit around 30 MPH. I guess he didn't notice that I had a GPS, lol. There was one other cyclist making his way down. We crossed paths just under the 58 freeway bridge. I didn't get a good look at him, but from what I saw, I don't think he was an avid cyclist. But I could be wrong. There were also some tourists at the loop, they encouraged me, and that was a welcome surprise.
