It was a peaceful and quiet night sleep. When daylight broke the giant fir tree next to my tent, started dumping fir cones over the ground, the covered structure roof, and even my tent, making all kinds of racket. A quick pick up and I was ready to go. A little bit too quick as I forgot to zip my pannier pocket where I put my camping headlight in. This resulted in me losing it somewhere along the trail. Today’s raid featured a steady climb from somewhere around 200 feet up to 1100 feet. I was also planning to take the Olympic adventure Trail as this quickly connected from where I was camping to the plant route. I was unsure about the difficulty because I knew it was off road. It ended up being fine in the section. I traveled as it was essentially a gravel road. After successfully merging with the normal route at Crescent Lake, the pathway was a smooth paved trail for many miles. The views were spectacular along the crystal clear lake towards the end of the lake. The trail continued ascending into a deep forest. After the lake, it was still a peace path mostly through forest without any views. So I went at a quick piece through this section. It then transitioned to quiet paved, logging roads. Finally, the quiet roads ended, and it was on Highway 101. This was less pleasant, but it still had a wide shoulder with only a few narrow sections at bridges. My plan was to get something to eat finally for the day at the city of Forks. I found a nice pizza place and had my first and only meal of the day. Unfortunately, this was at the 50 mile mark of the 55 mile ride. This seems to be my theme snack bar breakfast one big meal and then maybe a snack in the evening. This seems to be working for me however. My destination for camping is at Bogachiel State Park. They have 2 hike Bike sites and I am the only one using them today. There’s not too much to do here, but there is a river access point and they do have showers. There’s also a friendly garter snake hanging out around my campsite.
