It rained a little last night, but enough to get the ring cover wet. But the tree is protected most everything else. A good way to start the morning as I found my missing headlamp in one of my bags so I didn’t lose it after all. Unfortunately I didn’t find the missing Berry pie. Today ride was almost exclusively on highway 101. This means lots of high-speed traffic. Mostly the shoulders are wide enough to stay out of traffic but not in all cases. The worst by far like usual or the logging trucks who don’t seem to move over very much. There was also lots of bridge construction. I think I passed five separate one way light controlled sections.l because of this construction there is a high number of dump trucks also on the road. Approaching one construction area, a dump truck going my way with wide to pass me right when another dump truck was coming the other way, resulting in a Long punk of disapproval from the other approaching truck. One short departure from 101 was to try to find the largest Cedar Tree. I went uphill at at least a mile on the road and then decided to check to see if I could find it on the map. I was able to get a signal and it looked like it was going to be a long ways. So I abandoned this effort if I had planned it and didn’t have such a long day ahead of me today, then I might have gone for it. I’m expecting to get in the high 60 miles by time I get to my destination of lake Quinault. There was a couple of spots worthwhile along the route, and those were at some parks, where there was some view of the Pacific Ocean in Beach. I also checked out a couple of campsites that I had considered stopping at in planning on the coast one looked pretty nice and the other was mostly gravel and RVs. There are very few stores or other restaurants along this section so I stopped at three separate convenience, stores and mostly got junk food unfortunately. At one of them I met another southbound tour going down to San Francisco. We talked for a while. He is also playing to stay at Lake Quinault. After I had it off, I thought I should have maybe offered to ride together with him, but it was too late although I was looking for him along the way. I reached Quinalt and was very tired so I looked for a site at the first campground, which is Willaby. There was only two left so I grabbed one of them and up my stuff. Unfortunately, I had to go pee and a whole different area so I had to ride up the road about a mile at the Ranger station to pay.
After a little dinner, I headed back down to check out the other Campground, Falls Creek and the biggest Sitka spruce tree. That’s all the energy I could muster for the evening. Another big day tomorrow.
