It rained the most of the whole trip last night. The tent was soaking wet on the outside that was dry on the inside. It always feels wrong to wrap up a wet tent. But what can you do if you have to get going. Hopefully I get to the next campsite when it’s warm enough to dry it out. Steve (who I met on yesterday‘s ride) had a hard connection in Astoria and a 90 mile ride so he got an earlier start than I did. I took my time and there was more to see than the previous two days. One thing I had on my to do list was to visit North Cove, and wash away Beach. I found it and toward the area to see how it looks today. The beach in that area in the last 10 or so years has eroded away in many houses and streets are completely gone now I’m not sure but it looks to have stabilized now after that, I rode quite a bit along Willapa Bay. There was some nice viewpoints along the ride. I took one side route off of the main highway. It did have a bit of climbing, but it was still peaceful with no cars passing the whole time. I was on it. I reached the only big city on the ride, which was the city of Raymond. It’s still an active logging town with a major mill in the area on the river. I eat my big meal of the day there for lunch and then headed out to find the Willapa Hills Trail. It’s a new rails to trails path being constructed. So I wasn’t sure what state it would be in. Right out of Raymond it was rideable but very rough gravel. It was over 30 miles to the campground, but I wanted to give it a go. I grind it away for about 10 miles at which time I decided it was too rough and opted for the road paralleling it. During that time AB flew into my mouth and I quickly spit it out, but it had already stung my tongue. I worried for a little bit because last time I got done. I swelled up pretty good. Good thing I got it out quick because it only swelled in her a little after writing on the pavement road for about 10 miles. I tried the pathway again, but gave up after 1 mile because it was just as rough. So I continued on the road for about 12 miles out from camp. At that time I gave the trail a try again and this time it was smooth enough to ride at a decent speed. I stayed on the trail the whole way to the rainbow Falls State Park. They have plans to pay for the trail and it would be good to try it again when it is paved or at least improved. I did get to the park in time to catch some evening sun in a clearing to dry out my temp, which was still soaking wet. I plan to actually stay at the campground for two nights since my train ticket is for two days from now, I tried to change it, but I only had a satellite connection and no Internet.
