Meteor Crater to Williams, AZ We camped last night. It was a nice little campground near the meteor crater. At sunset we saw what looked like a rocket launch, maybe from Vandenberg. A short time later, Megan spotted either a very slow meteorite or perhaps something from the rocket launch burning up in the atmosphere. We got a late start from the campground, partly due to all the camping gear to deal with but also campground neighbors were curious about our trip and wanted to talk. Then, while riding down the shoulder of I-40 a pickup truck stopped in the shoulder ahead of us and the driver flagged us down. He was excited to see two bicycle tourists on the road and wanted to meet us and talk about touring - he's ridden across the country and published a book about his trip. I appreciated his enthusiasm but 1. we were on the shoulder of the interstate! 2. we were already behind schedule and had about 70mi to go to finish the day. We exchanged info so we could continue the conversation online. Before we pedaled away, he insisted on buying us dinner, handing me a $50 bill.
