Google…where is the closet bike shop to me?
Working on my F1 pit crew skills these days. Got my tire changed in 15:25 (that's minutes and seconds). Flatted the back tire again. Only 20mi into my 70mi ride :( . I kept looking for the Mavic Neutral Support Car. Hoping for a free wheel, I mean some support :) Nope, just me standing on the side of the road with my bike upside down. Saddle bag emptied out, swatting at bees. This was my second flat in three rides on that back wheel, and there were sections of this ride that would have really sucked to be stuck on the side of the road if I flatted again…yes I know how to patch a tube…just don't like to. Pressed on though, and it held up, so happy for that! Never found out if I was ever near a bike shop, them seem to be scarce in these parts! I should look that up before my next ride.
Continuing my new fueling strategy from my last ride…beefing it up! Still cutting back on electrolytes and piling on the carbs. I have to say, I felt great overall out there today. I mean it was 70mi…so there was some wear and tear on the body, still legs felt solid overall. Still was feeling pretty thirsty out there. I liked this route overall. A lot of new roads going up to New River and coming back from there. Not bad overall.
Fueling…pasta last night…oatmeal breakfast. I think I managed close to 70g of carbs an hour. One high carb get (40g) and one regular gel (25g). Plus some fig bars in there too. Only used half of a LMNT in one water bottle to start. I did take a Salt Stick cap before the ride. Never used any more after that of the LMNT or Salt Stick caps. There were electrolytes in some of the gels too. Worked on making sure I was going through 2 bottles of water every hour and a half out there. Ended up with four stops at gas stations to fill the bottles. One was just because I was worried I wasn't gonna see another stop for a while. Still felt pretty thirsty on the ride overall, but managed it well I think. I dig these high carb gels I picked up this last week. Felt like a mule carrying all this stuff in my jersey pockets. Speaking of which had to chase some wild donkeys off the road about 5mi down New River. Crazy donkeys!
