Take the airport ferry across from Ketchikan to Gravina island. From the terminal, follow a dirt road heading east in parallel with the runway. The road will go thru a tunnel under the runway and intersect with Gravina Island highway. Turn right and follow the graded dirt road for 1 mile. At the intersection, turn left up Bostwick Lake road. Bostwick Lake road is heavily used by hunters, campers, etc, which makes this road very accessible to the end 7 miles away. From the start, this a very gnarly dirt road. It is semi-graveled and full of big, embedded rocks for the entire road. Ascents and descents require reduced speed and caution. One mile up from Gravina Island highway, you will reach Bostwick Lake on your left. This is a former logging road. The route is primarily tree-lined with plenty of pull-outs where people camp. I never saw evidence of bear on the road, only deer. The Bostwick dirt road conditions stay consistent the entire ride.
