A 15 mile walk with Pete and Dave starting at Broadstairs Station and beginning with a coffee. Then it was down to the beach and cliffside walk around to Margate. We passed all the classic bays: Stone Bay, Joss Bay, Kingsgate Bay. Botany Bay, Palm Bay and Walpole Bay before reaching Margate. Just before Margate we passed Cliftonville and the sad remains of the Lido here and the Winter Gardens next door. At Margate we walked out to inspect the Anthony Gormley statue as it a very low tide. Splendid. After that we visited the Bridget Riley exhibition in the Turner Gallery. That made our eyes wobble a bit. Then it was lunch sitting on the deckchairs outside the Turner. Amazingly warm in the sun. Soon it was time for a pint: in the Bull's Head - where Eric Morecombe had his wedding reception, in 1952! Then we continued our walk around the coast to Westgate and onto Minnis Bay where we had finished last week. Before slipping into the pub we visited Dante Gabriel Rosetti's grave in the local church. Then a couple of pints in the Seaview Inn before jumping the train to Faversham, slipping a couple more pints at the Elephant. A very long day. We saw the usual complement of seabirds and waders. The Red-throated Diver stood out because it's a handsome bird and is only here, visiting from Scotland probably, in the winter.
