Took advantage of cooler day, starting cloudy, to ride what has historically been a tough route when hot. Good choice. Last few miles were sort of a struggle, mainly the climb up from Rock Creek on Muncaster Mill and the climb in Needwood after the trail ends. But otherwise legs felt good; contact points were yelling at the end but had not rebelled. Must have been bad storm in DC last night; lots of limbs down and a big ol tree blocking the CCT. Lots and lots of people on the Trolley Trail as well as the CCT and was glad to have done those sections first (i.e., earlier). Part of the route from NIH to Bethesda was closed (battery lane park) which forced a detour back onto Old Georgetown Road and some recalculating to find Woodmont again. (obviously should have looked at the map!) Also ugly scramble to find a substitute for Ohio Drive, which is still closed from fireworks. Final note: CCT has become as rough and dirt-covered as the Rock Creek Trail north of Randolph Road. Both are becoming fat-tire routes...
