Got access to a far more analytical virtual coaching software that I’ve paired with Garmin Connect on my phone so that it can access every workout and ride I log and do a deep analysis of every data point of power output, heart rate, grade, speed, temperature, wind, altitude, cadence, distance, time, intervals, recovery responses, hydration and fueling and fed it my known stren and weaknesses and let it know I want to bring up all my weaknesses and all it spots towards the goal of optimizing all internal systems for constant over adaption.
So since I live a minimum of about 30 miles from the nearest significant real mountain climb, I told it about Mt Roubidoux which is about 5 miles from my house and Lake Hills over off Pierce and Magnolia heading towards Lake Mathews - both have stretches of climbing with up to 12% pitch for a good mile upwards, the software created a weekly training program that today includes several 1 mile repeats aimed at progressively taking me deeper into developing my anaerobic capabilities for climbing and a higher cadence for tempo and accelerations.
It will be interesting over the next month or so to see how these hill repeats play out once I test what adaptations have installed when I take to the actual local mountains again.
Today: cool 60’s to 70’s sunny, wind mostly from the northeast but swirling around the mountain ⛰️. Tested out some clear cycling glasses with a tiny rear view mirror on bottom outer quadrant of each lens.
The jury is out on whether they are a plus or minus as yet. Definitely allows one to; with a slight head turn to the right or left, to easily get an accurate read on the line of trajectory and speed of rear approaching motor vehicle traffic. However, I also noticed it’s easy to knock the mirrors out of adjustment while trying to swipe oncoming sweat drops from streaking them. Also when i wanted to do U-turns, the mirrors create a significant blind spot when i need to actually look back without the mirrors to confirm that all is clear to flip a U. It was nice at one point when the wind kicked up a swirl of sand and I expected it to hit my eye area and the glasses kept it away. That’s mostly the reason I want some clear lens riding glasses.
When dipping into new areas of weakness I find it hard to balance cadence and stay with in a specific power output assigned to the workout while unfolding the workout in areas that contain so many changes in grade, wind directions, descents, stop signs like the downtown Riverside area - during warmup, with such short distances between stop signs.
SART was either a full on tail wind heading over to MR or a zigzagging head wind riding into it. So downtown had to do it.
Not quite 100% recovered from last Saturday’s 101 miler but close enough I think.
🤔 Wondering what the analysis of the data will reveal?

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
