An earthquake originating in the Central Apennines (the mountain ranges extending the length of Italy) was felt in Rome and Spoleto on this date in the year 801, around 8 p.m. It is reported in two independent contemporary sources, Einhard's Royal Frankish Annals and the Liber Pontificalis and is augmented by archaeology.
The quake was severe, estimated 5.4 magnitude. Among the most interesting structures damaged is Basilica Papale di San Paolo fuori le Mura (Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls), first consecrated in the year 324. It's roof collapsed, and Pope Leo III rebuilt it. The Basilica was destroyed by an accidental fire in 1823. It was rebuilt and consecrated in 1840, but work continued into the 20th century.

A more experienced rider advised me to spin today and Friday, the day before the Wine Country Century. No climbing, keep a high cadence, 15-20 miles. So that's what I did.
Perfect weather, other than a strong headwind westbound.
If I complete the century Saturday, it will be my first century since the Mountains Challenge in 2019. I also rode the Wine Country Century in 2019. I didn't finish the Wine Country Century in 2021. I rode the Wine Country metric century route last year.

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
