Шъыгъо-шӏэжъ маф (Circassian Day of Mourning) is observed on this date each year by the Circassian diaspora to commemorate those killed in and displaced by the Circassian genocide in the final stages of the Russian invasion of Circassia.
Circassia was a country and a historical region in Eastern Europe. It spanned the western coastal portions of the North Caucasus, along the northeastern shore of the Black Sea. In the medieval era, Circassia was nominally ruled by an elected Grand Prince, but individual principalities and tribes were autonomous. In the 18th–19th centuries, a central government began to form. The Russian invasion of Circassia began in 1763. Over the next century, the Circassian people fought to preserve their independence. The last Circassian fighters were defeated in the Battle of Qbaada in 1864.
In Russia, this date is known as the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Caucasus War, because the Russian government does not recognize their actions as a genocide.

Another very short spin today on the Domane, after a week recovering from a bad cold. I wasn't sure I was ready, but the ride felt good, and feel better after the ride than I did before.
Before this ride, I cleaned the Straggler to remove the salt crusted on it by the very strong overnight winds in Bodega Bay five days ago, where I camped on the way back to Santa Cruz, knowing I was too sick to join the Climate Ride. The Domane has a cover for camping on the rack, but I don't yet have a cover that fits the Straggler.
After cleaning the Straggler, I rode it (but didn't track) 0.8 miles, just to make sure it was still working!
