Last day! That brutal 6 mile ascent the day before turned into a thrilling 6 mile descent today! Holy cow! It only took about 12 minutes to go down what took 1 h 20 minutes to go up the day before.
After a few miles of overall pleasant flat riding, we stopped at the Alpha Estate winery for a tour and tasting. Very impressive and very tasty wine too.
After the wine tasting the rest of the ride was a bit of a slog. For various reasons the group gor very splintered at this point of the ride. A few had chosed to skip the winery. I had a cable adjustment issue on the rear derailleur, fellow rider Jim (from Berkeley), had a front brake issue (he lost a front disc brake pad!). As a result the rest of the ride was rather lonely. Once we got into Edessa, those who had their own bikes, had to get busy cleaning, disassembling, and packing. A bit tough, when you are tired and hot but it all went well.
Overall, an excellent tour! So much variety. So many wonderful roads. And, for the most part, very little traffic. And the Greek people are wonderful! So many friendly waves, folks saying hi, and friendly toots.
