My consolation ride return from Chester CA, My clothes were not picked uo by the Hotel from the Post Office. I bonked the night before and got into the hotel when we were supposed to leave for Day 3. I might have ridden if I had clean clothes. They washed my clothes while I slept. I woke up at 3 pm still feeling a little a little disoriented so decided to spend the night and head back via the Feather River Canyon. Apple maps routed me out using Prattville - Butte Lake rd. It turned to dirt about 2 miles in and down a severely steep hill. Talked with a water truck driver filling up at the reservoir if the road remained in the same condition until the town of Caribou. He replied, The town of Caribou? Your riding to there? He said the road was in decent shape and it would be a good ride to Caribou. There is no town of Caribou. It is a PG&E power station in the middle of nowhere. 10 miles of dirt with steep descents. I came across a road crew and the flag person asked, What are you doing out here? One of the guys on the crew yelled, You think you have enough water? I replied, you can never have enough water. It was 100F when I arrived in Oroville CA and I had about 12 oz left out of the 140 oz I started with. The section from the Caribou to Hwy 70 was a nice 4% grade so not a lot of braking. Same once I got to Hwy 70, the Feather River Canyon. A beautiful out either up down but much faster with gravity on your side. Count the Amtrak Thruway bus in Oroville because I didn't want to ride the 80 miles into Sacrament in 100F heat.
