I didn't sleep super well at the roadside station as trucks keep their engines on all night so it was very loud. Combine that with a sleeping mat that keeps deflating on the concrete floor, I woke up many times. That being said, it had its perks as I was able to stay undercover and my tent didn't get rained on.
Because of my not so great sleeping area, I got up very early (around 5:30?) and just packed and left. The cycle was unlike the day before, there were actually cycle signs painted on the road which indicates a known cycle route. That meant that the climbs and descents were relatively simple, and the tarmac was nice. There were a few tunnels, some real big ones, but nothing too crazy to begin with.
My day started by chatting to an old local who confessed that he has messed up his health with too much smoking and drinking. I think he just wanted to practice his English, but he wished me a safe trip.
The towns I cycled through continued to be a highlight. At Fukushima-juku I went to a museum of the woman who lived there's lineage. Her ancestors has served the Tokugawa Shogunate, who ruled Japan during the Edo period. It was only ¥200 yen but it was a fun venture. In Kiso I went into a cafe that had a tiny door for what I can only assume is toddlers which is kind of fun. There was a dutch couple who were hiking with a baby and I had a nice conversation with them.
From there I went through a very big tunnel and saw the final town of Kiro-Hirasawa that was once again super gorgeous and reminded me of Demon Slayer.
I slept at another Michi No Eki, with a convenience store dinner. I actually got there really early at about 1:30, because there were thunderstorms predicted to come and so I stayed put. I'm glad I did, because when they hit at about 3pm it was so strong for about 30 minutes that I had to move to a different undercover spot after my laptop and camera got rained on while I was in the restroom (they were undercover but the rain was just so bad it gut swept under the roof.
The rain stopped after an hour or so though, and I slept in my tent undercover watching Code Geass.
