delorem ipsum dolor sit amet - The pain itself is painful.
The ride didn't quite go to plan. Towards the top of John Nicholas Trail, Zoe was having an issue with her freehub. There were points when it wasn't engaging so she was spinning freely pedaling in both directions.
About a mile and a half from Castle Rock Ant and Zoe jumped onto Skyline and rode back to the car on road. Every time she stopped, the freehub would disengage and she had to struggle to get it to reengage and didn't want to risk it disengaging on the trail.
Alex and I continued on but not for that much longer as she was cooked from the climb up and needed to be done by a certain time. We weighed all the possible bailouts and dropping back down Hwy 9 seemed like the best.
The ride was colder than expected. When we got up to Skyline, it was very chilly and luckily we brought jackets
It's so ironic that we didn't end up riding in Midpen at all, which was one of the goals of this ride, and we did all the hard climbing but didn't really get the reward of the fun, dirt, descending. Also ironic that Ant had tried this route before on his gravel bike and aborted and almost the same spot so still has yet to do the fun bits of this route.
I think we ended up getting back to the car 15-30 min. after Ant and zoe did.
The dirt we did do, JNT and Skyline Ridge were gorgeous. The greens were so vibrant today, especially the moss on the rocks and trees.
Looks like we're going to have to do this again but maybe figure a way to shuttle it so we don't have to climb Sanborn Road and Lake Ranch Trail again. Those should only be climbed like once a year.
I recently watched a video about the Lorem Ipsum mystery which was fascinating as a graphic design nerd.
"Lorem ipsum" is the standard placeholder text used in design and web development to fill empty text blocks while a layout is being built. Despite looking like real text, it is actually a corrupted, nonsensical version of a 1st-century BC philosophical text by Cicero. The original Latin was scrambled, altered, and truncated, so it does not translate into coherent sentences.
