Because of yesterday's aborted ride, I had two full bottles of Skratch that I didn't want to waste. I would've preferred to do a MTB ride but I didn't really feel like climbing.
I was surprised to see how calm it looked outside this morning but I saw the wind was eventually going to pick up.
Despite looking calm, there was some strong headwinds right from the beginning of the ride. It ended up being 50/25/25 - tailwind/crosswind/headwind.
I was in such a hurry to get going, since it was already lunch time and I was going to get lunch, that I forgot to inflate my tires. I didn't realize until I got going - hit my first bump - and noticed that they still felt pretty solid and harsher than I'd like. Then I started to think when I rode this bike last and it was Wednesday evening. I already have my pressures at the bare minimum and even with quite a few days the lack of sidewall compliance (for my weight) is so evident. I stopped to see if they were too low and did the curb test and they seemed okay so I kept going. Other than feeling a little softer and more compliant during slow speed bumps, it was as if I had inflated them to my normal pressure.
That dirt trail just north of Bridge Parkway in Redwood Shores was closed. It looks like they completely regraded it and it's all gravel now. Despite the signs saying it was closed, I saw a walker going in at the beginning and another walker exiting at the other end. I guess I should've ridden it.
I wasn't expecting so much crosswind on Bay Trail after Google and very happy for the times when it was a tailwind. But I knew then that Guadalupe River Trail was going to be straight tailwind and it was wonderful.
I rolled into the Caltrain station just in time to see my train rolling out. If I hadn't stopped to put Skratch in one of my bottles and use the restroom, I would've been on it and home 30 minutes sooner.
I past this group of three guys on Bay Trail around MLK Park but they must have past me back while I was getting water at Byxbee Park because I past them again just after Shoreline. But I saw them again on my train. 😂
