What an awesome route! All paved rail trail that extends from Plummer, ID on west to Wallace, ID on east and return! No cars, very few low volume road crossings, and not a lot of other users. The main drawbacks are: 1) not a lot of services so have to be aware of a plan for water and food, 2) the pavement does not have any holes but there are a high count of freeze-thaw humps, that are mostly tarred over yet some of them can shake a rider up! Also some of those humps are not tarred and harder to see.
At Plummer there is a gas station c-store near the control, but not right at the control. Wallace and Kellogg are the 2 main points to re-supply, but even those stores are a block or 2 off the trail.
I started in Kellogg, since that is where my hotel was. I rode up -back to Wallace. Then stopped at my room for breakfast and finished loading the car and checked out of room. Then rode from Kellogg to Plummer and back. This was due to wind and hotel check-out advantages.
The route takes one through old mining areas on east end, then in and out of canopy covered trail and in and out of slough areas ( where geese liked to hang out and poop), then finally to the lake on the west end. Once to south end of lake you cross the old railroad bridge across the Lake Chatcolet, pass Heyburn State Park ( flush toilet here) and then the steady railroad grade climb, 1-2% all the way up to Plummer.
Note, the control address in Wallace is now Miner's Mart ( not Beamis Hi Co/Exxon). Google street view shows Miner's Mart, which matches what I saw.
