The weather is ideal. A bit on the warm side, but the wind was going the right direction and on the cool side. I wore the standard summer kit. The legs felt average to start. I made it to the top of OTR in good average time. The Banducci Wall had some traffic mitigation. I was on 6 O'clock alert. I was near max going over the top. From there, I made my way to the summit. Again, lot's of traffic, so I was super cautious. After making it to the summit, I pulled over to recover and let traffic by. Then I headed down the mountain. I used one of the turn-outs to let traffic by and then made my way to the base. It was safe. The trek to SS was going into a headwind, so I took it easy. Doing 15 MPH most of the way. I made my way around the back side and then into the descent. I put in a good sprint on the downhill. I stopped at the park for a quick bio break. I passed the tunnel in about 1:07 hours. So, a bit on the slow side. I headed to the mini-mart and stopped to mix a powder drink. I got back on the road and made my way home. The trek through the farmlands was mostly moderate tempo with a tail or tail/cross wind. I passed Boss Hogs in about 1:31 hours. So, I gave up just 4 minutes on the return. The last climb went quick. I kept the tempo steady. After making it to the summit, I pulled over to feed a Clif Bar with some water. Then I got back on the road and made my way to Route 202. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation, but not much. The descent off OTR was mostly relaxing. I pushed it over Mariposa and to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. I had stuff to think about, the morale was on the positive side. Balance and form was good. Ailments were minimal. The muscles and joints were good today. Just the usual hand soreness. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal with some grapes for breakfast. Gear worked flawlessly. Other notes, I wore a new pair of gloves today. They felt good. I might purchase another pair next month. No cyclists today.
Other notes. About the SS sprint. I put it in a smaller gear than usual before the initial jump. I peaked better that way. Will keep that in mind for next time.
