Today was Maspalomas to La Calzada via Aguimes. I'm going to avoid Las Palmas because it's the largest and busiest city on this small island. It's only about 35 miles across, but you can't go across because the entire island is one big. volcano. It was 80F today which is cooler than many parts of Spain.. It was hazy today. They say this is due to a weather phenomenon called a calima, which occurs when strong easterly winds carry fine dust and sand from the Sahara Desert across the Atlantic Ocean. It amazing that it can collect over this small island, but that's what happens. It could be bad if you overwork yourself, but I kept my heart rate and breathing intensity very low. The wind was very strong too. Depending on the direction I was going it hurt or it helped. Since it's one big volcano, any time you divert from the coast, you end up on twisty roads with switchbacks. The8 major highways and traffic on the island are on the coast. Today was Sunday so traffic was low because most businesses are closed. But each town I went through seemed to have some type of gathering/celebration going on which was fun to see
