The weather is supposed to get hot, so I got up a bit earlier today. It was around 80 when I got out. Winds from the North West. I felt a bit sluggish to start. I felt better by the time I reached OTR, but still heavy in the legs. Perhaps from yesterday's strength training and not enough recovery. I made it to the summit of OTR in average time. The Banducci Wall had traffic mitigation. I was at 140+ BPM going over the top. So, I had some matches to burn. The remainder of the Banducci climb was mostly moderate tempo. The traffic persisted, so I did my best to let them by. I reached the summit in average time. After reaching the summit, I took a few moments to recover and then headed down the mountain, it was safe with no traffic from behind. The trek through the farmlands was mostly moderate tempo while going into a headwind. I made my way around the backside of SS and then the descent into town. I put in a good sprint. I stopped at the local park for a quick bio break. I got back on the road and passed the tunnel in 1:08 hours. So, not too good on time. I stopped at the local mini-mart to mix a sport drink and then got back on the road. I kept the tempo steady going through the farmlands. I passed Boss Hogs in about 1:30 minutes or so, so I gave up about 2 to 3 minutes on the return, not so bad. The last climb went quick. No heroics. I stopped once to take a photo of a hawk that had something in its claw. It flew away before I could compose the shot. After making it to the summit, I stopped to feed a Clif Bar with water. I got back on the road after that and made my way to Route 202. Route 202 had some traffic mitigation from behind. I let traffic by as best I could before merging onto the turn lane. Descending off OTR was mostly relaxing. From there, I pushed over Mariposa and to the top of Weston where I shut it down.
Concentration was good. I had things to think about and the morale felt good. A bit discouraging with the sluggishness today. Balance and form was good. Nutrition was good. I had a bowl of oatmeal and a banana for breakfast. Ailments were minimal, just the usual hand soreness and the usual sensation of fatigue, especially in the heat. Gear worked flawlessly. I bought a new GPS / GoPro mount (K-edge) and tried it for the first time today. It worked flawlessly. Other notes, I saw 3 cyclists today.
