Found this route on the Mid-Valley Bike Club web site. Started from Philomath High School. The first 17.7 miles was on Bellfountain Rd, riding through the Finley NWR. Decent shoulder on most of Bellfountain Rd. A couple of moderate climbs, but nothing overly steep. Short rest stop at the Bellfountain store then continued into little Alpine. Brought back memories of the Alpine Century Ride from several years ago. Next was a 2.5 mile segment before the first major climb. The climbing got serious just after going by Glenbrook. A 2-mile climb, mostly at 8-10%, with 850 feet gain. Enjoyed the long descent to the Fall Creek Trailhead turn-off, followed by a short flat section, then another long downhill. At mile 30.5 South Fork Rd flattened out followed by a short climb at the South Fork Alsea River bridge. The last 4 miles to the Alsea-Deadwood Highway was a nice cruise, although some rough spots. Second rest stop was at the Alsea library (mile 37.4). Was not looking forward to the final 18 miles on busy Highway 34. The first 5 miles on 34 was mostly flat, with a few gentle rollers. Next up was the 2nd major climb, a 4-mile slog at 6-8%. Definitely earned the long windy downhill to just before Decker Rd. There were 4 more miles on Highway 34, then a turn for Grange Hall Rd to Fern Rd and then another 1.5 miles back to the high school. There is an alternate route utilizing Decker Rd, Peterson Rd to Fern Rd.
