A riding favorite when visiting Wallace, ID. Started from the 3 Kings rental house next to Bicycle Adventures. Smoky to start, unlike the previous couple of days. The bulk of the climbing occurs in the first 6.2 miles, up to Dobson Pass via 9 Mile Creek Rd. The first 3 miles gain 400 feet and goes by the 9 Mile Cemetery and the Silver Mine tour location. Smoke became worse as I continued the climb. A few Forest Service vehicles went by on the ascent. The smoke was terrible over the last 1 1/2 miles of the climb. Evidently the smoke was from the Dudley Fire that started August 26th in the afternoon. The descent to Beaver Creek was steep with several sharp curves. Have to ride the breaks nearly the entire descent. Smoke cleared by the time I got down to Beaver Creek. Wanted to ride the Delta Murray Rd to Murray but signage stated the road was closed on weekdays. Continued on to the Couer d'Alene Rd junction then decided to add a couple bonus miles riding to Pritchard (MP 22.5). The next 20 miles was along the Couer d'Alene River. This was a beautiful section with minimal vehicle traffic. Overcast mid/high clouds and no wind made for excellent riding conditions. Next stop was the Snake Pit (mile 39.7). The final 18 miles was on the Trail of the Couer d'Alenes. A little west wind developed around Smelterville. Ran into trail construction in Smelterville and was forced to ride a one mile detour to get back on the trail. The section from Pinehurst through Kellogg was not the best part of the trail. Riding through towns, next to the freeway and also through Elizabeth Park. The trail gradually climbs from the east end of the Park all the way to Wallace, around 400 feet over 8 miles.
