Tammerkoski is a channel of rapids in Tampere, Finland, between two lakes, Näsijärvi, the higher, and Pyhäjärvi, 18 metres (59 ft) lower in elevation. The banks of the Tammerkoski are among the oldest industrial areas in Finland, powered by the rapids, and were the site of a busy marketplace in the 17th century.
On this date in 1891, the first hydroelectric power plant was commissioned in the rapids. Today, four power stations and three dams are located on the Tammerkoski.
Tammerkoski is mentioned in official documents in 1405. In the 15th century, the first dams were built on the channel. A wooden bridge over the Tammerkoski was constructed in 1807, replaced by an iron bridge in 1884 and an iron-concrete bridge named Hämeensilta in 1929. Many other bridges have since been built.
By the 1990s, most industry had disappeared from the banks of the Tammerkoski. The Tako paperboard mill is still operational, producing high-quality packaging for luxury items such as French perfume. The buildings of the old factories have been turned into restaurants and museums among other uses.
The waters of the Tammerkoski are quite clean, and the channel is popular with fishermen.

I joined the club C ride and stayed with them as far as Bean Creek. They continued down Bean Creek while I rode the rest of Glenwood. The Straggler's low gears made the climbing more comfortable, and the fat tires handled the rough pavement descending Glenwood and Bean Creek.
I've been wanting to try Lockewood Lane from Mount Hermon Road to Graham Hill Road. I find Lockewood isn't hard at all! I may make that my preferred route back from Scotts Valley, even though Graham Hill has a lot of traffic. I got honked at once today on Graham Hill, so I know I must have been doing it right.
