Wednesday. Supposed to be Paul Ashby's ride. He is unwell, so Jim Swan takes the lead. Followers are: Cliff Jones, Iain MacDonald, Lilo Bleasdale, John MacMillan, Sandra Gladwin, Dave Brown, Tony Hopkins and me. Jim promises a hilly ride and we are not to be disappointed.
Through Ickenham and Breakspear Road, we climb up to Harefield, before descending into West Hyde. We cross the North Orbital and over the M25, before descending again into Chalfont St Peter and refreshments at The Bread House cafe. The place was packed so a few, went to Crumbs instead.
After drinks we set off up hill to Chalfont St Giles, Coleshill, and down into Old Amersham. It wouldn't be a Jim Swan ride without a bit of rough stuff; so we climb a steep bridleway into a wood reaching Amersham on the hill. At Weedon Hill we turn right and down into Chesham to our lumch stop at The Queens Head.
Afterwards it's up and down again: Ley Hill, Latimer, and Stoney Lane. We stop at a cafe in Chorleywood. Riders have been gradually leaving en route, so by the time we reach The Swillett we are down to four. Lilo leaves us to climb Coppermill Lane to Harefield, while Jim, Iain and myself continue to Denham Village etc. A pleasant warm spring day.
