After slightly more than two years from having first explored the concept, I finally made my ride of an Angeles National Forest Double Century. I brainstormed many variations of a route for a double century through the ANF, but returned to the original route which had been mapped by Jim Swarzman (RIP):

This is an exceedingly challenging ride, but also very rewarding with beautiful scenery.
This page is from a Garmin data upload, with data merged from Judy's Garmin for my missing segment in the middle of the ride, starting with our leaving Newcomb's on our outbound leg. The inserted data includes a jump in elevation, so the accumulated elevation gain and loss should be reduced, say to +/-22,100'. This insertion of data from another Garmin unit has also ruined the elevation "profile" for the climb up Lone Pine Canyon Rd. (approx. 7.1 mi., 2700', avg 7.1% grade), which can be viewed from an earlier ride at:
http://ridewithgps.com/trips/2438231
Of course, there was also my commute from home to the ride start, which adds 4.3 miles and 236', bringing the totals for the day to approx.:
208.2 miles & 22,300'
Pete, Judy and TJ started with me. TJ went as far as Dawson Saddle before turning back to descend CA-39 and make it home in time for family dinner plans. Pete and Judy rode the entire way to Red Box, but opted out of the climb to Mt. Wilson and finished together while I proceeded up Mt. Wilson.
I had a melt-down climbing Lone Pine Canyon Rd., and fell well behind Pete and Judy. In fact, I also fell behind on the climb up the back side of Dawson Saddle. I started to regain some strength after that, though and was able to keep up from there on out.
While this was a great ride in general, we encountered an extremely dangerous condition for cyclists on the 7+ mile stretch of CA-138 created by the road construction taking place, where CalTrans has placed K-rails alongside of the road, leaving cyclists without any shoulder or buffer between the cyclist and the motor vehicle traffic going freeway speeds in the same direction. In many spots these vehicles were unable to move a safe distance away from us without risking a head-on collision with traffic coming the opposite direction.
This is definitely a worthwhile ride which I shall repeat as soon as the CA-138 can be navigated safely by bicycle without the need to be followed by a pilot car with flashing lights.
100' jump in elevation gain at mile 121.9 where data shifts from the insert of data from Judy's Garmin back to my Garmin; similar drop of elevation at start of the inserted data at mile 69.6 (Newcomb's).

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
Estimated Time shows a prediction of how long it would take you to ride a given route. This number is based on your recent riding history, and represents an estimate of moving time. Each time you upload a new ride, your Estimated Time profile will adjust to reflect your most recent riding. Only rides exceeding 10 miles (16 km) will affect these estimates.
