Checkpoint. Partly cloudy, cool (50-ish) and brisk 10-12 mph SW winds. Gorgeous Fall scenery throughout the ride along the Des Plaines River in Cook County. This Part 3 of 4 headed North on the Des Plaines River Trail. Started from the Half Day Forest Preserve, then through Captain Daniel Wright Woods FP, MacArthur Woods FP, Old School FP, Minear Park, Adler Memorial Park and finally Independence Grove Forest Preserve. Saw tons of hikers and other bikes on the ride. Did extensive loops in Daniel Wright, Old School and Independence Grove. While the actual Des Plaines River is somewhat ugly for the most part, the woods surrounding it are nice. Independence Grove is a huge park with a large multi-bay lake, lots of trails, restrooms and even a cafe and marina, all in Mundelein and Mattawa, IL It's also a great place to start a ride with The DPRT going North and South, as well as the Millenium Trail heading off to the Northwest into the Chain of Lakes Region.
