Full-on adventure time with Emily! So much fun!!!
A navigation error towards the end of the ride meant we were riding on these janky planks next to the Hetch Hetchy pipe. I nearly went off into the mars when my wheel tramlined on the gap between the two planks and when I brushed up against one of the wooden ladders. I stopped to see we were off course and the only thing to do was a sketchy climb over both Hetch Hetchy pipes while trying to carry our bikes over the old janky ladder/bridges. 😬 I can assure you your water was safer than we were. But hey, no one died or got arrested. 🤣
Emily’s 3D printed watch holder was weakened last ride when she put weight on it so her watch was constantly popping off throughout the ride. We did a lot of searching for a Fenix in multiple haystacks.
I think we have the makings of a great Amazing Race team. We're pretty good at getting lost and taking the hard way. :) We also did a pretty good job of overcoming our obstacles together. So... Amazing Race, you know where to find us.
The morning started off with a quick tour of Bedwell Bayfront. We attempted the KOM/QOM. On one of her attempts was the first time her Fenix popped off. We searched for a while before finally finding it in the grass. Since it's just the watch face, it's small and black, and it rolls off the path pretty easily.
It was also surprisingly warm, warmer than the forecast indicated anyway. But it was really windy all day with headwind for a lot of it making it feel like winter.
The best discovery from a previous ride was the mall with tons of food options along Automall Pkwy. In-N-Out all the way but there was a bakery there too.
We had a little bit of trouble finding the trail to get across for the Bay Trail to the north end of Ravenswood Preserve. There was a small water crossing that was also pretty muddy. I tried pushing off, slipped on the mud and dunked my foot.
And then there was the navigation error... Also forgot to mention while I was handing the bikes up to Emily I had what felt like a splinter go into my eye while I was looking up. And then while I was climbing up, Emily was busy videoing the whole thing, and because of the rocky bridge, her bike started to roll towards me without her knowing. At first, I was thinking, "Why's a wheel coming at my face?!?!" Luckily, the bike stopped when it rolled into my arm that was holding onto the ladder.
Back at Bedwell, we played around some more and I attempted the KOM again but my legs were pretty tired. I actually got a better entry but going up the climb the sun was in my eyes and I didn't take the best line.
All and all, a solid day!
