The forecast said it was just going to be cloudy today but the ride started with drizzle and brief showers. After Altamont Pass, the roads seemed to be drying but Patterson Pass was obscured by low clouds and fog. At the top it was wet again and it turned into light drizzle/showers on the way back to Livermore for lunch.
We should’ve put our jackets on earlier but got wet instead. Before getting to lunch, I think we were all feeling like that was going to be the end of our ride.
Sitting outside in the cold when we were wet, we started shivering, and we called it. I was using my Mr. Pickles sandwich wrapper as a blanket to keep my legs warm. :) After we finished lunch, we headed back to the cars instead of going out for the second pass of Patterson Pass and Tesla Rd. - so we did about half the ride.
Luckily the Patterson Pass PR attempt was on the first pass. Originally I was going to ride my Tarmac until I saw how wet the roads were this morning and made the decision to ride the Thesis instead. And because of that, I wasn’t planning on attempting a PR since it’s heavier but when I got there I thought, why not?
I knew going in, I was going to get a PR, I just wasn’t sure by how much. I remember thinking I did pretty good when I last PR’d but that was starting the effort later than where the segment actually begins. I did it right this time and was over 11 minutes faster!

Best format for turn-by-turn directions on modern Garmin Edge Devices
Best format for turn by turn directions on Edge 500, 510. Will provide true turn by turn navigation on Edge 800, 810, 1000, Touring including custom cue entries. Great for training when we release those features. Not currently optimal for Virtual Partner.
Useful for uploading your activity to another service, keeping records on your own computer etc.
Useful for any GPS unit. Contains no cuesheet entries, only track information (breadcrumb trail). Will provide turn by turn directions (true navigation) on the Edge 705/800/810/1000/Touring, but will not have any custom cues. Works great for Mio Cyclo. Find GPS specific help in our help system.
