Trek 5000. First day warm enough to ride outside in almost 3 weeks. Sunny day, still cold but it might have hit 40 degrees at one point. Wind was a bit stiff, 12-14 mph on the way out West, dropped to about 9-10 mph on the way back but still enough to have a good push. I averaged 13.3 mph into the wind by the halfway point, 18.7 mph on the return half. While the speed is pretty slow overall, riding in all the winter gear really slows you down, both aerodynamically and mechanically.
Also the first test ride with the the new VIRB camera. It's going to take several tries to get this figured out optimally but worked pretty good. Weird that it breaks the video up into 24 minute segment files on the camera but it combines them when you sync and upload into the VIRB editor. Also the camera only lasted about 1:40 but I'm assuming that is from the cold. But position was right for a level view, video quality good but sound is pretty bad with wind noise. It does pick up every nose sniffle and swear word I utter - including me cussing at the truck driver that flipped me a bird and me yelling at two loose dogs that decided to come after me.
Another peculiarity: I can charge the unit while recording using a USB cable and a power bank stored in a bento box, BUT you have to start recording before plugging it in...
Felt stupendous getting outside, dress: Rapha bib tights, 2 wool socks each foot with 2 chemical warmers on each foot, Trek Neon winter boots, poly short sleeve base, merino long sleeve base, Good Rapha jacket, head band, 3 layers of gloves, including my new Di Marchi outer wind shells. They worked great but probably better for +35 degrees, will stick with the lobster claws for below 35 degrees.
