11s: Chalfont St Peter Church
Lunch: The Garibaldi Bourne End
Tea: Windsor Coach Station Cafe
It was damp at Uxbridge but brightening as we departed. We took the standard route out through the Golf Course where we were in luck as the gate was open, then up Denham Lane and down through Chiltern Hill to tea at the Church which was excellent as usual.
From there we did a big loop up to Chalfont St Giles and Forty Green to add in some mileage, with a slight delay to pump up, then repair a puncture in Rays rear tyre which just so happened to be a gatorskin, and rather difficult to get back on. Margaret disappeared as we passed the Farm Shop, she latter told me that she stopped for lunch at the Royal Standard and had some very nice sandwiches. We didn’t fare so well. Woodys tyre (also a gatorskin, and also difficult to get back on) punctured at the top of Harvest Hill. Being as it was nearly lunch time and we were hungry, we left four people behind (how many Loiterers does it take to fix a puncture?) and headed down to the pub. Lunch was rather lacking as the 2 for £10 deal advertised on their website was no longer available and the portions were a bit on the small side and the prices a bit on the high side. On the plus the service was quick, the quality was good and the pub dogs took an instant like to Woody. Captain Morgan kindly fixed the punctured inner tubes whilst eating his lunch to ensure we had sufficient spares if needs be.
After lunch we crossed the river at Cookham and back again at Maidenhead, then along Marsh Lane to Dorney and NCN 4 to afternoon tea at Windsor Garden Café where everyone stocked up on chocolate and cakes. The final stretch was through Datchet and Ditton Park, then past Langley Station for a change to Shreding Green where we split up to head our separate ways home.
