My very first Fatcake ride was on my birthday. I figured anytime my birthday is on the same day as a ride I need to go. The day didn’t start so great. It was sunny and clear on the drive into the city until Serramonte, when a huge bank of fog swallowed the sky. Too many foggy FCC rides. I’m so over it. The route starts off with a very sandy part. I basically walked all the deep sand parts not wanting to risk falling again with my sore ribs. It was a pretty intense ride - I forgot and miss what a good workout the morning rides can be. So on my first Pretty Dirty Vowels I got to encounter the infamous Meryl Streep of Kahn Park - the self-righteous dog walker that goes out of her way to yell at cyclists telling them they’re riding illegally on trails when the trails are in fact legal. We were actually on the pavement and hadn’t even gone on the trail yet when she ran over to yell at us that we weren’t allowed. She didn’t even know where were going and we were in fact going on the legal section. She managed to ruin a perfectly good ride. I should’ve said, “Thanks for ruining my birthday!!!” but instead I just told her she should be ashamed of herself for going out of her way to be so rude. After that, all we could talk about was her and getting Karen’d which is pretty unfortunate. I wonder how badly the rest of my birthday is going to go now.
