It was a touch hot but manageable, although I ended up drinking a hell of a lot of fluids, definitely over 10 liters.
Route planned was already 155 miles and then I encountered a closed road in Dooly county, so I went around it on GA 215 and 257, a first for me ever(that part anyway), and it turned out the road north of there was also gated. Great. So I went to the next road on the highway and it too was closed, but by the county road dept. So I went down it and it was fine, just the pavement falling apart completely. Big holes and pavement pieces everywhere. No problem to avoid it all on a bike though. It didn't last long and I tried a side road to get back on track but that too was gated. So had to go all the way around but eventually got back on track. Added about 6 miles though.
I was going through water like crazy and it just so happened I rode right by a little community park by a highway that had a nice covered area and water. Leaving I didn't pay any attention to where I was going and headed off down the highway away from the route. Another mile. Bunch of cool rolling dirt roads into Roberta. Got water again at the park there and saved my appetite for Musella where I treated myself to a peach ice cream cone at Dickey's farm. Worth going if you are anywhere near, really cool place.
When I got to Zebulon I looked behind me and could see a line of strong storms to my south. Was kinda hoping they were heading my way but it was not to be. All dry everywhere. Near the Line Creek road Flint river bridge I was treated to some dust kicked up by two teenagers on some sort of fast gator like vehicle that could go like 50mph. That was nice.
By around this point I was basically out of water yet again. Didn't feel like filtering and didn't think I could wait till town so I actually stopped and got a Dr Pepper at the DG in DIgbey, which was terrific.
Got to town and took the paths in since it was getting dark. There were a lot of golf carts out and about and I for some reason decided I wasn't going to let one pass me. Which took quite the effort actually.
