This ride was anything but normal.... I can't believe how many days passed since my last ride it only felt like one week! So many things kept me off the saddle mostly the intense lower back pain which made everything so hard to do and so easy for every excuse that would come up, amazing how easy it was... mentally it was beating me up though. I went out just to do my 10 mile loop but missed the turn off, so it was the 24 mile loop. At the turn around point I decided to see how the road work was coming along which now put me on the 30-40 mile loop. Parts of the road work was finished others not so. On the return portion of a 5 mile back country road, the last 2 miles there was road work being done a major surprise to me.The road surface was all chopped up with deep grooves and giant shallow pot holes scattered all over. I don't recall how many I hit but one of the first I hit caused a scraping sound, I didn't want to stop fearing the worse so I kept rolling when I finally made it out back onto the main road, I was so happy! until I discovered what the scraping noise was, a broken nipple. I tried to unscrew the nipple by hand unsuccessful, I checked to see if I had any tools that would get it done, nothing and nothing to secure it, so I was forced to break the spoke. At this point I just wanted to get home without needing to walk or calling for help since it was now after 3am and my lower back screaming! I headed home the shortest route and prayed nothing would happen. I finally got home about 40 or so minutes later, I was so happy making it back without another incidence. Rolling the bike up the steps I noticed a weird sound as the rear tire rolled up the steps, it was nearly completely flat, Had I did the normal return route another 3 miles I doubt the tire would have held up and the thought of that is unbearable!
Oh forgot to mention I got a new Garmin Rear Radar (older model, got it half off but thought it was the new model). I would see cars far before the radar did but that is only if i was continuously check on my rear view mirror. Which I do on roads that I expect traffic but not so much on roads that has few cars. The radar keeps me more alert as it shows it approach on my Garmin it also shows all the up coming cars until it is clear. It is especially great for left hand turns... plus it also have a rear light too!
