I went riding with Peggy to SS today. I got up late for my nap. So the departure time was delayed. The weather is in the 80's with winds from the North West. The legs felt better than the previous ride. The plan for the entire ride was to regroup every so often. That way both of us were able to ride at our own pace. I was sufficiently warmed up by the time I reached the end of OTR. Banducci was the usual stuff. The grind up the wall and the steady tempo to the summit. We took a few moments rest at the summit to recover, hydrate and take photos. After that, we headed downhill. We regrouped at the base and then headed to SS. The next regroup was at the SS entrance. I was doing mini laps on the regroup sections. That's why the mileage is more than normal. After regrouping at the backside of SS, we headed into town. Unfortunately, I forgot to restart the GoPro, so I lost coverage for the descent. I stopped at the park on the way down to see if they had a water fountain. Looks like they removed it. We decided to stop at the mini mart and by some provisions. After filling bottles, we headed back on the road. At this point, we had a tailwind. So, the speed was a bit higher. The next regrouping was at Pellisier. I swapped out the battery on the GoPro. I kept the tempo steady, no red-lining. I wasn't paying too much attention to the time, but we were about 25 minutes slower than I would normally go. The last climb went well. I waited for a few minutes at the top. From there, we made our way up to Route 202. We let traffic by and headed down to OTR. After reaching OTR, it was mostly fun and games. Concentration was good. Patience was paying off. Balance and form was good. Gear worked flawless. Ailments were minimal. Some hand soreness. Nutrition was good. I had two full bottles of Gatorade and about half of water. Other notes, there was some sort of festival at SS. No doubt a 4th of July thing.
