Started the day with a long mellow gravel grind up to the pass between Medicine Lodge and Sheep Creek. The summit turned into a bit of a confab where we caught up with Julie and Keith who I’d met in Butte, and also chatted with a pair of northbound riders. The descent was absolutely spectacular, winding through a wide open basin and then dropping into the narrows of Sheep Creek canyon. The views just went on and on until we were somewhat unceremoniously dropped at the interstate frontage road. A quick jog over to the town of Lima where our hopes of hot food were dashed- both restaurants were closed on Tuesdays. We made do with the Exxon station which at least had a pleasant gazebo- as truly the only game in town it became the site of the second bike party that day. K&J joined us again as well as our other southbound friends Tom and Dan, and a pair of northbound riders. After some food and beta swapping we set off to get a few more evening miles in. Eventually the mosquitos and washboard killed our mojo around the Lima Dam. This was the first time this trip I set my tent up in a mosquito swarm, and I’ll admit I wasn’t in that great of a mood about it. Fingers crossed for a more peaceful morning..
